the EFL blog for Jaime Moniz students.
EnglishNet gives you access to English language and
culture.
This is a place where you have the opportunity to learn, practise and
improve your English in a different way.
It contains
links to help you learn and improve your English grammar and your listening,
reading and writing skills.
You will also be able to participate
and give opinions.
Let's start
by finding some interesting and entertaining facts about the English language:
- there are
more than 125 English dialects worldwide.
- the most common vowel in English is "e" and the most
common consonant is "r" followed by "t". The letter
"q" is the least used.
- the
oldest word in the English language is "town".
-"invisibility" is the only word in the English language which
has one vowel, but this vowel occurs five times.
-
"uncopyrightable" is the only English word that has 15 letters and
that can be spelt without repeating a single one.
-
"bookkeeper" is the only English word with three consecutive repeated
letters.
- the word
"typewriter" is the longest word you can write in English by only
using the keys on the same row of your
keyboard.
- "skiing"
is the only English word with double "i".
- "dreamt"
is the only English word that ends in the letters "mt".
- the words "racecar", "kayak" and "level" are the same whether they are read left to right or right to left (palindromes).
That's all for now.
I hope you enjoy and get the most of this blog!
See you next time.
